Barret is the innovative lawyer with a wealth of broad experience. He is forward-thinking, current, and dedicated to his clients, community, and profession. With extensive experience representing clients embroiled in litigation across the United States, as well as working with judges to resolve disputes and appeals, Barret's ability to strategize around legal issues is smart, effective, and efficient.
Barret spent half a decade representing big businesses and wealthy individuals at three large law firms with international presences. At those firms, he litigated cases anywhere from business conflicts to settlement negotiations to intellectual property infringement to personal injury and catastrophic loss. By representing clients from tech companies to insurance carriers, Barret acquired valuable insights as to how those companies operate and litigate. But before entering private practice, Barret gained considerable experience working in the judiciary. Upon graduating with honors from Emory University School of Law in 2013, he served as a staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. Barret assisted the Court in resolving federal appeals in employment discrimination, immigration, civil rights, criminal convictions and sentencing, and habeas corpus. Barret further gained experience in the judiciary while a law student. He worked for Chief Judge Alex Kozinski on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Los Angeles, Judge Amy Totenberg on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta, and Judge Fredericka Wicker on the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal in the greater New Orleans area. His extensive experience working for four courts throughout the country provides considerable and rare experience regarding how judges make decisions. He now utilizes that experience to develop strategies for his clients. While in law school, Barret was elected to serve as the Executive Articles Editor of the Emory Law Journal, where he also received the highest honor from the law review—the Myron Penn Laughlin Award for Excellence in Legal Research and Writing. He also served as co-president of Emory OUTLaw, which is the organization devoted to LGBTQ+ law students. Barret further served as a teaching assistant for Advanced Legal Writing and Editing. He graduated with honors in 2013 at the age of 24. Barret studied psychology and philosophy at Brigham Young University, where he completed his Bachelor's of Science degree within two and a half years. Although he grew up Louisiana and enjoys cooking Cajun cuisine, Barret is a long-time resident of Atlanta. Education
