Rountree Leitman Klein & Geer, LLC is pleased to share that partner Will B. Geer served as a panelist at the 2026 Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop, hosted by the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI). Mr. Geer participated in the panel titled “Strategies for Streamlining Small Business Cases,” a discussion focused on making the reorganization process more efficient for small business debtors.
The workshop was held July 23–26, 2026, at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Florida, drawing bankruptcy judges, practitioners, and academics from across the Southeast for continuing education and dialogue on developing issues in bankruptcy practice.
Strategies for Streamlining Small Business Cases
Small business reorganizations present a distinct set of challenges. Limited resources, tight timelines, and the need to keep a business operating while it restructures all require a focused, practical approach. The panel examined tools and best practices for moving these cases forward efficiently — from early case planning and cash-collateral issues to plan confirmation.
Much of the small business landscape today runs through Subchapter V of Chapter 11, a streamlined reorganization path created by the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 for eligible small business debtors. Subchapter V was designed to make reorganization faster, less expensive, and more accessible than a traditional Chapter 11 case, and it has become an important option for owner-operated businesses working through financial distress.
